James (Jamie) E. Belleau, Partner

Jamie is a partner of the law firm Trafton, Matzen, Belleau & Frenette, LLP joining the firm as a full partner in 2015 after previously being an owner and officer in another mid-sized firm in Auburn.  He was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1996. 

He has an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating in the distinguished legal directory, Martindale-Hubbell.  He is listed in Best Lawyers in America 2023 in Construction Law and in 2024 in Construction Law, Litigation-Construction and Medical Malpractice Law-Defendants.  For the last four years he has been listed in Super Lawyers as a top-rated general litigation and municipal attorney.  Jamie was previously selected to the New England Rising Stars list in 2010, a distinguished list of young attorneys. 

While he is a highly versatile attorney, Jamie’s practice areas concentrate in general civil litigation including professional license defense, insurance defense, civil and business litigation, real estate disputes, personal injury, construction, probate litigation, commercial and municipal law. 

Jamie has distinguished himself as a successful litigator with a broad depth of experience handling a wide range of cases.  A brilliant legal thinker, he has the capacity to develop and follow well-planned legal strategies through to a successful conclusion for his clients.  This, combined with his ability to connect with his clients’ needs, makes Jamie a valuable legal resource for many businesses and individuals.   

Jamie is a past president of the Androscoggin County Bar Association and a former member of the City of Lewiston Zoning Board of Appeals. 

Born and raised in Lewiston, Maine, Jamie attended Lewiston High School where he made a name for himself on the ice as an All-State ice hockey player. Due to his combined scholarly and athletic performance he was awarded the William H. Clifford Award given to the school’s scholar-athlete.  Jamie continued his studies at Bowdoin College, graduating magna cum laude in 1993.  In 1996, he graduated cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law ranked eleventh in his class. 

While comfortable in the courtroom, Jamie is also at home on the ice. A long-time hockey coach, he helped elevate the Edward Little Varsity Hockey Team to two state titles during his three years as coach.  He also served as the head coach of the Lewiston High School Varsity Hockey team for thirteen years leading them to State Championship Titles in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.  He was also an assistant hockey coach at North Yarmouth Academy and is currently the assistant softball coach at North Yarmouth Academy. He also coaches youth hockey, softball and soccer. 

Jamie resides in Lewiston with his wife, Rebecca and their four children, James, Michael, Anna and Elizabeth.
