Richard L. Trafton, Partner

Juris Doctor degree, University of Maine School of Law, 1977  |  Bachelor of Arts degree, Dartmouth College, 1971 Richard L. Trafton is a lifelong resident of Auburn and his father, Willis A. Trafton, Jr. was the the firm’s founding partner. Virginia G. Trafton of Auburn was his mother.

He was educated at Phillips Academy, Dartmouth College, and the University of Maine School of Law. He was admitted to practice in Maine in 1977 in both the Federal and State courts and is a member of both the Maine Bar Association and American Bar Association. Between college and law school he was employed as a City Planner with primary responsibilities for land use ordinances and land use reviews.

He served in the Maine Senate from 1982 through 1986, chairing the Joint Standing Committees on Judiciary and Legal Affairs. He served as Mayor of the City of Auburn from 1989 through 1994.

He currently serves as a trustee of the Auburn Public Library.

Married with three children, he resides in Auburn, Maine.

A lifelong winter sports enthusiast, Richard has been the chairman of the Maine Winter Sports Center Board of Directors beginning in 2014. His areas of expertise and practice include estate planning and administration, land use and administrative law, real estate and corporate law.
